Introduction Industry 4.0

Industry 4.0 pursues the introduction of Internet technologies in the industry with the aim of opening up new value creation potential through networking and digitalization. With machines and processes becoming increasingly complex, this is only possible by using standards.

Key elements of Industry 4.0 are:

  • Communication of data from machine to machine or from machine to superodinary control systems.
  • Storage and administration of data over the entire life cycle, starting from planning, over operation through to disposal.

Driven by our members, EUROMAP has set itself the task to standardize these key elements of Industry 4.0.

For machine data communication, the open-source standard OPC UA has established itself in the industry and is widely used. EUROMAP works together with the OPC Foundation in joint working groups on the development of OPC UA Companion Specifications for plastics and rubber machines.

For more information about OPC UA as base technology visit https://opcfoundation.org/.

An overview of the OPC UA Companion Specifications for plastics and rubber machines including the current working groups can be found here: Overview OPC UA Companion Specifications.

The solution for data administration is the Asset Administration Shell (AAS). EUROMAP works together with the Industrial Digital Twin Association (IDTA) in joint working groups on the development of Asset Administration Shell Submodel Templates for plastics and rubber machines.
